Home Remedies For Arthritis Pain

Arthritis can strike any part of your body, where the bones form a joint such as knees, fingers, jaw, elbows and hips. Arthritis pain can range from being very mild to extremely severe, to an extent so as to make the person immobile. Also, if this disease is not diagnosed and treated on time, it can have some very serious repercussions; for instance, permanent damage to the affected joint. Relief from Arthritis Pain

Though the effectiveness of such medical treatments cannot be debated upon, these alone cannot help you get rid of arthritis pain. This is the reason why most people have shifted their focus to some simple home remedies, along with making some significant lifestyle changes in order to get some relief from arthritis pain.

Hot Compresses

There is no hard and fast rule regarding whether it is cold, heat or a combination of both that can relieve you of your pain. So, the best thing to do is to begin with hot compresses. This can be done by covering the affected area with a moist, hot towel or better still, an electric blanket. Heat relaxes the joints and muscles, decreases stiffness and relieves pain. However, in some cases the heat treatment may aggravate your pain, particularly if you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, wherein, the joints are already inflamed. In such a situation, you can go for cold compresses. For this, use a washcloth soaked in cold water or a pack of ice. Moreover, you can even go for a combination of hot and cold compresses which are bound to be very effective for treating arthritis pain.

Magnesium Sulphate

In this regard, you can also make use of Magnesium Sulphate, commonly known as Epsom salts. It is commonly used in soaks to reduce swelling and relieve aching joints. For this, you can mix a few teaspoons of salt in warm water, and soak the effected body part in it for some time.

Aspartame

Although lemonade has never been considered a healthy drink, but if you are suffering with arthritis pain, you might get some relief by drinking sugar free lemonade. As per research, sugar free soda contains an artificial sweetener called Aspartame which provides the same amount of relief as anti-inflammatory agents.

Osteoporosis

When you are undergoing medical treatment for arthritis, some medicines can result in a loss of calcium from your body, resulting in osteoporosis. Hence, in order to counteract this effect, make sure that your daily diet consists of enough amount of calcium.

In addition to these simple yet effective home remedies, making some simple lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, managing your calorie intake, maintaining proper posture while standing, sitting and resting can help you go a long way in relieving your pain.
